32 injured in 3 grenade blasts

Srinagar: Even as security forces today killed two infiltrating militants in Boniyar area of Uri sector, as amany as 32 persons-including 27 civilians-sustained injuries in three grenade blasts in Sopore, Pampore and Kulgam. Informed sources told the EXCELSIOR that a suspected militant lobbed a hand grenade towards an Army convoy near Police Station of Sopore when it was on way from Sopore to Bandipore at 0955 hours. It hit the targeted vehicle but bounced back and exploded on road causing injuries to 18 civilians. They included a number of women. While most of the injured were treated and discharged in Sopore, some of them were rushed to a Srinagar hospital. In half-an-hour of the blast, shopkeepers in a particular area of the apple town downed shutters and began raising slogans. According to them, it was Army that had dropped the grenade and left a large number of the civilians wounded in the blast. Order was restored after Police swung into action and used baton charge to disperse the mob. Officials, however, insisted that the grenade had been lobbed by a militant who would be got identified and punished. Reports from south Kashmir said that militants lobbed a grenade towards a joint patrol of RR 50 Bn and 10-Territorial Army between Khrew and Wuyan. It exploded close to the intended target, causing injuries to two soldiers and and two civilian women. They were all evacuated to a hospital. Third successive grenade attack occurred at Kaimoh in Kulgam Police District this evening. Informed sources said that a suspected militant tossed a hand grenade onto a CRPF patrol of 162 Bn at Kaimoh on Khanabal-Wanpoh Road this evening. It exploded on the road, causing injuries to two soldiers and equal number of the civilian women. They were rushed to different hospitals for treatment. Meanwhile, informed sources in north Kashmir said that security forces laid an ambush in Boniyar area following an input that a group of militants could make an attempt of infiltration into the Valley. Late in the night, human movement was observed. Troops opened fire, killing two militants. Others are believed to have escaped. Agencies Add Sources said Border Security Force (BSF) arrested a HM militant at Keller in South Kashmir district of Pulwama. On his instance, security forces recovered 4,462 rounds of AK ammunition, one hand grenade, two magazines, one mobile phone and two sim cards from his native village Kellar in same district, officials said. They said another militant of Hizbul Mujahideen Bashir Ahmad Mir was arrested from Sopore bus stand and a pistol, one magazine and six rounds were recovered from him. A militant of Al Barq outfit Ghulam Mohd Mir surrendered before Army at Vilgam in Handwara area of Kupwara district, they said, adding he handed over one pistol, one magazine and a radio set to the authorities.
