Washington DC: A four-day fifth annual international conference on 'Interfaith Perspective on Globalisation for the Common Good' started at Chaminade University, Honolulu, Hawai, Thursday. Scholars, researchers, professionals, community and spiritual leaders from different parts of the world are attending the conference being held at the Chaminade University, Honolulu, says a message received here. Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, Executive Director, Kashmiri American Council- Kashmir Centre, Washington, will be addressing the conference on the subject of, 'Kashmir: A Way Forward' The Conference will continue from June 22 to 25. A conference statement says that 'a diverse range' of scholars and specialists will partake in panels, lectures, keynote presentations, and cultural-social events. Other speakers at the conference will address pressing international issues, such as: Islam and the West; Dialogue among Civilisations; Mission and Dialogue; Religion, Spirituality, Ethics, Economics, Sustainability and Globalisation; the Silk Road and Globalisation for the Common Good; Developing a Global Marshal Plan; Religion and Regional Collaboration. The online Journal of Globalisation for the Common Good will also be launched during the conference. Dr. Kamran Mofid, co-organizer of the conference says that 'In these turbulent times, it seems that the term 'religion' is often hijacked by the proponents of its very antithesis - namely, ideological and political disputation, conflict, and strife. At the same time, people from all walks of life and different parts of the world are questioning many aspects of today's moral and spiritual free-zone life and existence - the 'everything goes' mentality. Are there sources from which we can draw meaning and wholeness into our lives? Are there resources of spirituality that will nourish and sustain us in this complex, pluralistic, and ever-changing world?' Globalisation for the Common Good Initiative was inaugurated in Oxford in 2002. Other annual conferences have been held in St. Petersburg, Russia; Dubai, UAE and Kericho, Kenya. The 2007 Annual conference will take place at Fatih University, Istanbul, Turkey.
