Lashkar militant killed in Bhadarwah, 4 held

jammu: Army and police gunned down an 'area commander' of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant at Jai Ghati in Gandoh and apprehended four activists of the LeT in Panchal area in two separate incidents in Doda district. Official sources said troops of 4 Rashtriya Rifles and police launched a search operation at Jai Ghati in Gandoh area early this morning after developing an information that LeT 'area commander' Noor Mohd son of Hakim Din, a resident of Kunthal had taken shelter in the area along with his body-guard. A dhok where the militant had taken shelter was identified by the security personnel. However, on being challenged, Noor Mohd and his body-guard deserted the hide-out and fled towards Gantak Nullah. They were chased by the troops and engaged in a gun-battle. At 3.30 pm, security forces succeeded in eliminating Noor Mohd while his body-guard slipped away. Security forces didn't suffer any casualties in the operation that last two and a half hours. One AK-47 rifle, two magazines, 21 rounds, one grenades, explosive material and some documents were recovered from the scene of encounter. Troops continued searches to apprehend body-guard of the slain militant. According to sources, Noor Mohd was involved in a series of militant activities in Bhadarwah tehsil of Doda district. He was also wanted in attacks on security forces. His killing was a major blow to Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit. Meanwhile, Doda police have arrested four accused involved in a grenade attack at Panchal police picket in Doda district on May 29. They have been identified as Javed Ahmed son of Abdul Gani Shah, Parvez Ahmed son of Ghulam Hassan Shah, Mohd Ashraf son of Abdul Gani and Javed Ahmed son of Abdul Rashid, all residents of village Chowkian. According to sources, four accused were given grenades by a Pakistani militant Saifullah and a local Sadaqat, both Lashkar 'commanders' at Chowkian. They were given directions to lob grenades at Panchal police picket to cause casualties among the police personnel. After executing the task, the militants had gone under-ground. Questioning of the militants revealed that the accused were earlier also involved in militant activities at Gundna, Panchal, Chowkian, Malwana and Bharat. They also used to provide food, shelter and information about security forces movement to security forces. Further interrogation of the accused was on and some more clues were expected of them.
