Geelani taken into custody, released

Srinagar: Hard-core separatist leader and chairman of the All Party Hurriyat Conference (Geelani), Sayed Ali Shah Geelani was today taken into preventive custody by Rajouri Police. Mr Geelani, who was on way to Rajouri from Jammu, was arrested at Chingus. He was scheduled to address Friday congregation at Rajouri but the authorities took preventive measure by taking him into custody at about 11 am today. He was later released in the evening. According to police, Mr Geelani had taken permission from the authorities to address public meetings at Thanamandi and Darhal on June 4 and June 5. But he was moving towards Rajouri to address Friday congregation. Meanwhile some supporters of Sayed Ali Shah Geelani tried to address Friday congregation at Idgah ground but they were not allowed to do so.
