Ultras' Bid To Strike In Buzla Foiled

Jammu: Security forces foiled a militant bid to strike at minorities in Buzla area in Banihal tehsil of Doda district today, when four ultras of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit, including a tehsil commander, were killed in an encounter. The militants were planning to carry out an IED attack on the National Highway. Security forces recovered 4-kg RDX, besides arms and ammunition from the spot.On a specific information provided by the Intelligence agencies about the movement of four militants in the area of Buzla, the Army troops laid an ambush on the outskirts of Ralmandu village on Monday night, said Army sources. Sources said at the broke of dawn, the ambush party of the Army and the Police were about to lift the ambush when a sources informed them about the presence of militants inside the village. 'When the troops were cordoning the village, the militants opened heavy fire,' sources added. The troops returned the fire. In the ensuing gunbattle, four militants of HM were killed. The slain militants have been identified as Arshad Gujjar, alias Arshad (tehsil commander), son of late Ghulam Qadir Gijjar of Agnari. He was active in the area since 1997, sources added. While other militants have been identified as Mohammad Shafi, son of Ali Baksh of Akhran, Mohammad Yousuf, son of Fateh Barjat Gujjar of Amkot, and Fiaz Ahmed, son of Abdul Rashid Sahmad of Ahma. 'These militants had planned to lay an IED on the National Highway-IA a number of times, which were foiled by the road opening parties,' sources in the Army said. The recoveries made from them include two AK-47 rifles, eight AK magazines, 40 rounds of AK ammunition, two 7.62-mm pistol, five rounds of pistol ammunition, two radio sets, one UBGL, two UBGL grenade, 4 kgs of RDX, two kgs of metal scrap, six detonators and eight Chinese hand grenades. Further the army sources said that recovery of explosives including RDX points to the militants plan to target the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra commencing from June 11. Meanwhile, based on specific information provided by the two militants apprehended by the security forces on Monday from Sokar Naka area, two over ground workers were apprehended in general area of Dodaj on Monday. They have been identified as Mohammad Sarfaraz Ahmed (22) son of Mohammad Amin and his brother Mohammad Ishfaq (17). They were later handed over to the Darhal police station, sources said.
