Army inducts 111 fresh recruits from J&K

Srinagar: Passing out-cum-attestation parade of 74th Recruit Course of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regiment was held at Regimental Centre here today. Brigadier Shakti Prashad, Commandant JAK Light Infantry Regimental Centre, reviewed the parade and asked the young soldiers to be ready to make any sacrifice for the cause of the nation. The parents of the young soldiers, who witnessed the parade, had their chests filed up with pride on witnessing their children marching past them. A total of 111 recruits took the oath of allegiance to the Nation. Of these recruits, 48 were from Kashmir valley while the remaining from Jammu division. The JAK Light Infantry Regiment is one of the largest employer of the youth of militancy hit Jammu and Kashmir. The regiment is amongst the youngest and the most decorated Infantry Regiments of the Indian Army. Young Soldiers were awarded medals for excelling in physical training, drill and firing by the Reviewing Officer. The sword of honour for best all round soldier of 74th Course was presented to Recruit Arun Sharma while Recruit Bishan Lal commanded the parade. The Regimental Centre recruits its General Duty soldiers only from Jammu and Kashmir and also conducts preparatory classes for the aspiring candidates from the State for the recruitment with the aim of adding to the healing touch drive undertaken by the Government and the Indian Army.
