4 Militants Killed In Kashmir Encounter

Srinagar: Troopers of the Indian Army on Monday gunned down four militants in two separate encounters in north Kashmir. Indian Army spokesman Lt Col VK Batra said two militants were shot dead by the security forces in an encounter at Lolab in north Kashmir's Kupwara district, 100 km from Srinagar on Sunday night. He said arms and ammunition including two AK-47 rifles were recovered from the slain militants who were residents of Pakistan. In another encounter, two militants were gunned down by army troops at Handwara in north Kashmir, on Monday. 'The two militants walked into a routine ambush laid by the security forces in Boban Watsar forest area near Handwara. They were challenged and responded by opening fire at the surrounding troops. Security forces killed both the militants after a gun battle,' Batra said. Security forces and special operations group of the state police also arrested four militants of frontline Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit during raids in the apple rich town of Sopore in north Kashmir.
