Pune: She may go down in the history of the armed forces as the first woman officer ever to command a parade. But for surgeon Lt Cdr Wahida Prizm, from Rajouri district, this moment of glory was tinged with sadness as she remembers her father who was gunned down by militants in 2001. The medical officer, who has been teaching bio- chemistry at the Armed Forces Medical College since August 2004, said she missed her father. 'He would have been so happy today, so proud of me,' Prizm said. Prizm, who graduated from Jammu Medical College, was commissioned into the Indian Navy in 1997. This mother of a two-and-a-half-year-old son said it has been hectic at AFMC as she practises from 6.30 am till 12 noon. 'But I believe in giving the best to whatever job I am asked to do,' she said. Even Vice- Admiral V.K. Singh couldn't stop gushing about the parade. 'It was superior,' he said, adding,'Wahida Prizm's selection for the coveted command of the most important ceremony of the year only bears testimony to the place that has been accorded to women in the Indian armed forces.'
