Srinagar: Two unidentified militants have died in an encounter between militants and security forces in Drubgam village of Pulwama district late this evening. Informed sources said that militants ambushed a patrol party of BSF 42 Bn at Bon-Drubgam village in Pakharpora- Pulwama belt in the afternoon today. Troops retaliated and chased the militants. Sources said that when troops laid siege to a cluster of half-a-dozen residential houses and walked into the house of one Abdul Ahad Lone S-o Sonaullah Lone, two militants opened fire. Two BSF personnel sustained injuries but they took safe positions inside the house and were successfully evacuated by their colleagues amid a fierce covering cover. Thereafter, troops pinned down both the holed up militants and eliminated them both in the subsequent gunbattle. Later, SOG Budgam's Pakharpora unit and troops of Rashtriya Rifles 55 Bn also associated themselves with the operation. Both the injured BSF soldiers were rushed to a hospital for medical treatment. Though the militants killed in the operation were believed to be cadres of Hizbul Mujahideen, sources said that their identification was not possible immediately. Meanwhile, the overnight gunbattle between militants and security forces had ended with the recovery of one militant's dead body and three AK-56 rifles and equal number of pouches. It became clear today that after the death of one militant, two militants had managed to escape. SSP Anantnag confirmed that two militants escaped, one of them in injured condition. Reports from Sopore said that militants lobbed a hand grenade in the direction of a BSF patrol party at Bogus. However, it failed to explode. None of the soldiers targeted was reportedly injured.
