4 top JeM, HM ultras shot dead; 2 arrested

Srinagar: Troops of 25 Infantry Division and Poonch Brigade gunned down two Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) militants, both Pakistanis, including a 'district commander' in an encounter at Madhari jungle in Bandi Chechian in Poonch district this morning while two Hizbul Mujahideen militants, one of them a 'tehsil commander' were eliminated by Army and police at Thanna Mandi in Rajouri district. Six militants surrendered before Army in Banihal tehsil today while security forces arrested two persons at village Allah in Thanna Mandi area of Rajouri district for giving shelter to the militants in their houses. Troops under the supervision of Poonch Brigade Commander Brigadier G S Shergill cordoned off Madhari jungle in Bandi Chechian last night after developing an information that some militants had taken shelter in the abandoned dhok of Sattar Din son of Ghulam Mohd. Army delayed the operation for the night to ensure that no civilian was being used as a human shield by the militants. Finally, the dhok was surrounded by the Army personnel at 7 am today. In the next one hour long fierce fighting, both the militants were killed, official sources said. Security forces didn't suffer any casualties in the operation. Bodies of the militants were recovered from the dhok, which had been damaged in the gun-battle. They have been identified as Jaish-e-Mohammed 'district commander' Shah Ali son of Shah Mohd R-o Bawalpur, Punjab, Pakistan and Abrar Hazarvi (code name Javed Kasai) R-o Hazara, Punjab in Pakistan. Recoveries made from the scene of encounter included two AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, 121 rounds, one Kenwood radio set, four grenades, Rs 1860 in Indian currency, Rs 1500 in Pakistan currency, two pouches and one diary. General Officer Commanding (GOC) 25 Division Maj Gen V K Dutta, who was on a visit to Poonch, lauded the efforts of Poonch Brigade in eliminating two top militants without suffering any casualties. Troops of 43 Rashtriya Rifles under Thanna Mandi Brigade and Rajouri police shot dead two Hizbul Mujahideen militants in an encounter at Bego Narh near Karyot in Thanna Mandi area of Rajouri district this evening, DIG Rajouri-Poonch range V K Singh said. The operation in which two militants were killed lasted 48 hours. It was supervised by Col Bajaj of 43 RR and SSP Rajouri J P Singh. The militants killed in the operation were identified as Mohd Farooq alias Gulshan son of Hassan Mohd R-o Pangai, Thanna Mandi and Adnan Choudhary alias Tahir Kashmiri. Gulshan was a 'tehsil commander' of Hizbul Mujahideen and was operating in Rajouri district for last seven years. He was involved in a series of killings the latest being Master Mir Hussain and his son in Thanna Mandi in October last year. Two AK rifles, two hand grenades and two magazines were recovered from them. Six militants of Muslim Janbaaz Force (MJF) today surrendered before Army in Banihal tehsil. They will be produced before the mediapersons at Nagrota Corps Headquarters tomorrow morning. The militants surrendered along with a large quantity of arms, ammunition and explosives. Troops of Thanna Mandi Brigade last night arrested two suspects from their houses at village Allal in Thanna Mandi area of Rajouri district for giving shelter to the militants. They have been identified as Sayeed Mohd son of Abdul Aziz and Hakim Din son of Karam Din, both residents of Allal. Sources said both the civilians had constructed hide-outs in their houses which were being used for shelter by the militants. Troops have handed over the suspects to local police for questioning. In Jammu, Army arrested nine Bangladeshi nationals when they were trying to exfiltrate to Pakistan from Arnia sector last night. They have been handed over to police for questioning as nothing incriminating was recovered from their possession.
