Army To Recruit 1200 Kashmiri Youths

Srinagar: As a New Year gift for the people of Kashmir, the defence authorities have announced to recruit 1200 unemployed youths in the Territorial Army (TA) and Home and Hearth (HH) from next week. They have also announced a relaxation in the educational qualification for the Kashmiri youths for recruitment. A defence ministry spokesman said the army has decided to raise one more batallion of TA and HH to provide employment to the youths of the Kashmir valley. There are already two batallions of the TA and HH each in the State, he said. The army authorities in the State have forwarded a proposal to the Centre for sanction of more such batallion to provide employment to the youths of the State, he said. He said the recuitment in the batallion will start from January 9 from north Kashmir, once the hub of militants, which will continue for five days. He added that the next recruitment camp will be held in south Kashmir from January 17 for five days and central Kashmir from January 18. He said the proposals submitted to the Centre for raising more such batallion will get green signal. The spokesman also told that the minimum educational qualification for the Kashmiri youths for applying for the recruitment will be class eighth instead of matriculation as in the other states. This special concession has been given to the youths keeping in view the 15 year-long turmoil.
