Gilgit: Curfew in Gilgit was relaxed only for four hours (from 2pm to 6pm) on Wednesday apparently as part of efforts to avert any untoward incident. It may be mentioned that members of the Shia community had planned to take out a procession to mark the death anniversary of Hazrat Ali (RA). Sources said that in the past four days the authorities had daily relaxed curfew for seven hours but on Wednesday they did not relax it in the morning. According to reports reaching Gilgit, processions were taken out in Baltistan, Nagar, Hunza, Danyore, Nomal and suburban areas of Gilgit city to mark the death anniversary of Hazrat Ali (RA). The Karakoram Highway remained closed for all sorts of traffic from 8am to 1pm. No news of any untoward incident was reported from any of the areas. To tackle any untoward situation strict security measures were taken and huge contingents of forces were deployed in Danyore along the Karakoram Highway.
