Srinagar: Four militants were among five persons killed while at least 15 people, including four Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were wounded when militants attacked a security force post at Safa Kadal in downtown city here today, an official spokesman said. He said the militants hurled a grenade towards the post of the CRPF's 18 battalion near the Safa Kadal bridge. However, the grenade missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside, resulting in injuries to 15 people, the spokesman said. The injured included four CRPF personnel, he added. The security forces cordoned off the area and launched a manhunt to nab the militants. The security forces killed two militants in an encounter at Rafiabad in Jammu and Kashmir's border district of Baramula early today. The spokesman said the security forces, on a tip-off that militants were hiding at Behkipora village in Baramula district, cordoned off the area early this morning. As the security forces launched the search operation, militants hiding in a house of a forest guard fired at them, the spokesman added. The security forces returned the fire in which the two militants were killed, he said. The gunfight was still on when reports last came in. One militant each was killed during two separate encounters at Harwan on the outskirts of Srinagar city and Sangara Gali in the Mankote area of Poonch district, he said, adding some arms and ammunition were seized from the slain ultras. The police today recovered bullet-riddled body of Javed Ahmad Thakur from the Jhelum at Athawajan.
