20 October 2005
Srinagar: Two Pakistan-based militants were shot dead in an encounter with the Border Security Force in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, a BSF spokeaman said today. BSF troops and local police cordoned off Tsuribug village in Tral area of the district last evening on a lead that 'top commanders' of Jaish-e-Mohammad were active there, he said. He said while the search was on, the ultras opened fire on the troops and in the ensuing gunbattle two militants were killed. They have been identified as Adnan Farooq, a self-styled area commander of the outfit, and his close associate Danish Maviya, both residents of Pakistan, he said. Farooq, a resident of Lahore, was said to be involved in gunning down numerous civilians and security personnel. Two AK assault rifles, 4 magazines, 76 rounds, 2 Chinese grenades, two detonators, a wireless set, some incriminating documents and an identity card were found on the slain militants, the spokesman added.
