Four militants, 2 civilians killed

Srinagar: Four militants and a civilian have got killed and a woman died of cardiac arrest in two gunbattles between militants and security forces in Kokernag area of Anantnag district since yesterday. Meanwhile, two more militants have been killed by security forces in Bandipore and Budgam. Informed sources told the Excelsior that over a specific information, troops of Rashtriya Rifles 36 Bn raided a militant hideout at Naubug Larnoo in Kokernag on Friday afternoon. During the operation, troops destroyed a militant hideout killing three militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba. They were identified as Mohammad Ashraf Khokha alias Bilal of Cheribrahan Doda, Khursheed Ahmed Malik and Sajjad Rasool residents of Marwah. Sources said that a civilian, namely Ghulam Ahmed Kumar S-o Abdur Rahim Kumar got killed in crossfiring and another civilian sustained injuries. A woman, namely Noori W-o Abdus Salam Kumhar died of a heart attack. Sources said that SOG Anantnag and RR 36 Bn raided a militant hideout at Wan Diwalgam in Kokernag area late last evening. One militant of Jaish-e- Mohammad, identified as Mohammad Rafeeq Wagay of the same village got killed. Troops killed two more militants in separate gunbattles at Keunisoo in Bandipore and Alipore in Budgam. The militant killed was identified as Jaffar Shaheen of Pakistan. Meanwhile, troops of 5-Jat were reportedly still in search of the militants who had escaped from a fierce gunfight between militants and security forces at Tappal hamlet in Machhil area of Kupwara district on Thursday. Four soldiers, including a Subedar Major and two militants had got killed in the initial round of firing when sniffer dogs had led the troops to the militant hideout. Sources said that it was the 5th group of fresh infiltrators that had been intercepted by the security forces in Machhil, close to LoC, in Kupwara district in the last two months.
