Three militants killed in Kashmir

Srinagar: Four persons, including three militants, were killed in separate incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, while elsewhere, an abortive attempt was made to blow up a police station by firing rockets at it, an official spokesman said on Saturday. Two unidentified militants were killed in a gun battle with security forces on Saturday at Gopalpora village, 12 km from here, the spokesman said. Acting on a tip-off, Rashtriya Rifles troops and the police launched a joint search operation at the village and came under fire from militants hiding in a house. In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed. The identity and group affiliation of the militants were being ascertained, the spokesman said. Another militant was killed by security forces at Manjmi Dessa village in Doda district on Saturday. He has been identified as Mohammad Yousuf, alias Guddu Gujjar. One AK rifle and two magazines were recovered from him. Militants forced entry into the house of one Mohammad Ramzan on Friday night and shot dead his wife Hamida Begum at Gudaka village in Doda district. Militants also made an abortive attempt to blow up a police station by firing three rockets at it at Yaripora in Anantnag district on Friday night, the spokesperson said. The rockets missed the intended target and exploded in an open area nearby, causing minor damage to the building. No one was injured in the attack.
