Hizb Module Busted With Arrest Of Four Cadres

Srinagar: The police today claimed to have busted a module of Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit by arresting its four cadres. The arrests, police say, has helped it to solve many cases in the Budam district. We have busted a Hizb module,' said Afad-ul-Mujtaba, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Budgam, adding, 'And arrested its four members and solved six cases of killings and grenade attacks.' The district police, Budgam, today apprehended four suspected militants involved in the killings of political activists and civilians in the Beerwah tehsil of the district. The four militants belong to the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM). Briefing the media about the arrests, Budgam SSP said a party of the district police arrested Mohammad Yousuf Dar of Kawoosa, Beerwah. He (Dar) was involved in many killings, said Mujtaba, adding, 'He was specially trained for shooting people at point blank range.' The police said Dar was involved in the killings of Gulzar Ahmad Sheikh of Narbal, Tanveer Ahmad Zargar of Cheewa and Nazir Ahmad Dar of Warihama in the central Kashmir district of Budgam. The police claimed to recovered a pistol and some ammunition from the possession of Dar. In a separate incident, the SSP said a special police team apprehended Hilal Ahmad Shah of Soibugh, Budgam, and Mohammad Ashraf Ahangar of Goom, Ahmadpora. Shah and Ahangar, the SSP said, were involved in the grenade attack on a retired senior superintendent of police in Magam. The SSP was injured in the attack. The SSP said the police also arrested Bashir Ahmad, alias Ashiq, and recovered 60 kgs of explosives from his possession. He the killings were executed at the behest of Showkat Ahmad Ganai, who took over as the Hizb district commander after killing of Mohammad Yousuf Sheikh. Mujataba said the killers were teenage boys and had been motivated to such an extent that whatever Ganai tells them, they are ready to do. Mujtaba said the boys were being paid a paltry sum for the killings. They get Rs 100, 200 or 300 for the purpose. The SSP said with the arrest of these militants, the Hizb network in the area has been eliminated.
