Srinagar: Setting in motion the process to resume stalled talks between the Centre and the moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference, a representative of the Union Government today called on amalgam chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq. Panchayti Raj secretary Wajahat Habibullah met Mirwaiz at his Nigeen residence here this morning, amalgam sources said. Mirwaiz proposed second week of next month for resumption of talks to the Centre’s representative, they said. After the meeting, the Hurriyat softliner discussed the issue with his colleague Abdul Gani Bhat and both decided to convene a joint meeting of amalgam’s Executive,General Council and Working Committee next week to chalk out future course of action. Hurriyat had two rounds of talks with then Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani in 2004. After the change of Government at the Centre, the third round was delayed as Hurriyat leaders insisted they be allowed to visit Pakistan for talks with the leadership there. The Centre later allowed the Hurriyat delegation to visit Pakistan.
