5 Top Militants Held In Valley

Srinagar: Troops today arrested five heavily armed militants, including a self styled district commander in the frontier district of Kupwara, a Defence Ministry spokesman said. He said troops arrested the militants, including the commander identified as Zahir Husain Mir, during a search operation. The arms and ammunition seized from the militants included five AK rifles, 15 magazines, 198 rounds of ammunition, five pouches, one wireless set and six grenades. The spokesman said that security force and police in a joint operation recovered three AK rifles, four magazines, 1400 rounds of ammunition, three kg deadly RDX, two solar rockets, two missiles, five remote control devices, three pistols with 6 magazines, 8 RPG grenades, one UBGL with three rounds at Hafrada forest in Kupwara. However, no one was arrested. Security forces recovered 1680 rounds of ammunition, three magazines,one grenade launcher, two hand grenades, one improvised explosive devices, one wireless set, one electric detonator and one telescope from Numbal Banpora Nowgam today.
