I-Day Celebrated Throughout The Valley

Srinagar: The 59th Independence Day was celebrated with traditional fervor and gaiety across the Kashmir valley. Several functions were held to mark the day and the main function was held at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar. Similar functions were organised at the district and tehsil head quarters where the tricolor was unfurled and march past by contingents of JK Police, Armed Police, Fire Services, BSF, CRPF, NCC and school children carried out. Colorful cultural programmes were presented by the artists of Information department and school children at these places. At Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar thousands of people from various walks of life joined the celebrations. The Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed unfurled the National Flag, inspected the parade and took salute at the march past comprising contingents from CRPF, BSF, JKP, Fire Service, Homegaurds and NCC. A colorful cultural programme presented by Information Department in collaboration with Directorate of School Education was part of the celebrations. Academy of Art and Cultural also presented a colorful cultural programme. A dare devil Motor cycle Show of J&K Police was the main attraction of the event. Besides others the function was attended by Chairman, J&K Legislative Council, Deputy Speaker J&K Legislative Assembly, Members of Council of Ministers, Member Parliament, State Legislators, Army, Civil and Police Officers. Budgam: The Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Hakeem Mohammed Yaseen unfurled the National Flag and took salute at the march past at sports stadium here. Addressing a massive gathering on the occasion the chief guest, Hakeem Mohammed Yaseen while highlighting the importance of the day said the goals and objectives for which the coalition Government worked during the last three years are being achieved well ahead of schedule. He said that peace with dignity has not remained a mere slogan as was alleged but is being realized. Cultural programmes in collaboration with the District Youth Services and Sports office Budgam by school children, local and artists from Information Department were the main attraction of the celebrations. Pulwama: The main function was held at District Police Lines where Minister of State for PHE, Irrigation and Flood control Syed Bashir was the chief guest. The Minister hoisted the National Flag, inspected the parade and took salute on the march past. Remembering the sacrifices of the people for attaining freedom, the Minister emphasized on the people for safeguarding the freedom of the Nation. He said that people of all walks of life without consideration of religion, community, color and cast took part in the freedom struggle and sacrificed their precious lives for the freedom Among others MLA, Pulwama Mohammad Khalil Bandh,District Development Commissioner, Pulwama A. A. Lateef-u-Zaman Deva, SSP Pulwama Vipalu Kumar, prominent citizens and various district officers were present on the occasion. The Independence Day celebrations were also held at Tehsil Quarter Shopian,. Tral and Pampore. Kargil: The Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil Haji Asgar Ali Karbalaie unfurled the National Flag followed by National Anthem and took a salute at the colorful march past . The contingents of J&K Police, NCC and students of various institutions participated in the march past. Speaking on the occasion, Haji Karbalaie felicitated the people on this great historic day and said that the country has achieved the Independence after countless sacrifices and struggle made by the our leaders and rich tribute were paid to the martyrs who laid their lives for pushing out the British ruler from the soil of the country. He said after independence the developmental scenario of district Kargil has changed in all sphere of life. Referring to the Independence Day message of President and Prime Minister of the country towards making India a super power in Energy sector up to 2017, Haji Karbalie stressed upon the teaching community to make Kargil a model district in the country in the field of education 2020. Those present on the occasion were Minister for Sports and Technical Education Haji Nissar Ali, Executive Councilors Naseer Hussain Munshi, Haji Mohammed Ishaq and Kachoo Isfandyar Khan, SSP, Kargil Danish Rana and Army and civil officers and prominent citizens. Baramulla: National Flag was hoisted by the Minister for Finance Muzaffar Hussian Beigh and took salute at the march past contingents of JKP, CRPF, BSF, NCC and school children contingents also participated. The various cultural programmes were also presented on the occasion. Besides District Development Commissioner, Baramulla Senior Civil and Para military officers and a large number of prominent citizens attended the function. Kupwara: A similar function of Independence Day was held at District headquarters Kupwara. National Flag was unfurled by the Minister for Forest. Ghulam Mohuiddin Sofi and took salute at the march past, contingents of JKP, CRPF, BSF, NCC and school children also participated. The various cultural programmes were also presented on the occasion. Besides District Development Commissioner, Kupwara Senior Civil and Para military officers and a large number of prominent citizens attended the function. Similar functions were held at Tangdar Karnah were national flag was hoisted by the SDM Abdul Hamid Khan. At Sopore, similar function was held where SDM unfurled the national flag and took salute of the march past and Sumbal Sonawari Tehsildar hoisted the national flag at the Tehsildar headquarters and took salute of the march past. On the 59th Independence Day a special function was held at Srinagar Airport where Director Srinagar Airport Authority unfurled the national flag. All the staff members of the Airport Authority of India, Airlines and Security personnel participated in the ceremony Executive Councillor LAHDC Rigzin Spalbar hoisted the National Flag and took salute at march past. The Minister for Science and Technology, Nawang Rigzin Jora, other Executive Councillors and Deputy Commissioner, Satish Nehru were present on the occasion. In his brief address, the Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC said that the Hill Development Council, Leh is committed to provide transparent administration and would root out corruption for speedy development. He said the Council would provide employment to unemployed youth of the district. On the occasion, a befitting cultural programme was presented depicting different cultural shades by the students of various schools and the artists engaged by InformationDepartment and Cultural academy Leh. Earlier, Chief Executive Councillor distributed awards to the participants who took part in cultural programmes and march past. Minister of State for Planning Usman Majid unfurled the National Flag at Bandipora and took salute on the march past by the contingents of CRPF, JKAP, School Children and NCC cadets. Addressing the gathering, the Minister re-affirmed that the coalition government's agenda would be persuaded vehemently according to the urges and aspirations of the people of the State and said that they are committed to provide responsive and accountable governance. The reports of Independence Day celebrations were also pouring in from all tehsil headquarters which includes Pahalgam, Dooru, Kulgam, Ganderbal, Pattan, Tangdar, Uri, Handwara, Pampore, Tral, Shopian, etc. Anantnag: Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed unfurled the tri-colour and took salute at the march past Recalling the sacrifice of people of India made for the independence, Peerzada said that their sacrifice have yielded the fruits as the India is now biggest democratic country in the world and figuring number six in world power. He called upon the people for their contribution to make J&K prosperous, saying that without the participation of people this dream cannot be fulfilled. Later, various schools and artists of Information department and other Cultural Organisations presented various colourful cultural programmes on the occasion. The highlights of the cultural programme is a 'Jhanki' from New Era School from Nai Basti depicts 'composite culture of India'. The others who were present on the occasion includes Minister of State for R&B, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Minister of State for Home, A.R. Veeri, MLA Sartaj Madni and other senior officers of Army, BSF, CRPF and civil administration.
