Srinagar: Seven militants were among 10 people killed in separate incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, where ultras made an abortive bid to target security personnel camping in a hotel here, official sources said today. Militants fired a rifle grenade towards CRPF personnel camping in Ikhwan hotel at Munawarabad in downtown Srinagar last night and followed it by firing, the sources said. The device missed the intended target and exploded in mid-air without causing any harm, the sources said adding militants fled the scene in the face of retaliation by security personnel. In a separate incident, three militants were killed in a gunbattle with security forces in Machil sector of Kupwara district today, a defence spokesman said. The militants were confronted and killed by troops after a long chase after they attacked a search party in the area yesterday killing two jawans and wounding two others. Three more militants were killed by security forces during search operations at Kellam-Kulgam in Anantnag district this afternoon, the spokesman said. He said identity and group affiliation of the deceased was awaited as the operation in the area was still continuing. Another militant affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen identified as Altaf Hussain was killed in an encounter with troops of Rashtriya Rifles during search operations at Kalaroos in border district of Kupwara last night. Some arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militant, the spokesman said.
