Srinagar: Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday called the bus service between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad 'just the first step' on a long peace journey. 'A door has opened,' Singh told crowds and top political leaders moments before the bus to Muzaffarabad was flagged off. 'It (the bus service) will unite brother with sister, people who never dreamt of coming together will do so. This is a bus of hope and a great example of India and Pakistan working together. It shows how much both governments respect the people's emotions and sentiments,' Singh said. 'What can we not achieve if we work together?' he asked. UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi said the start of the bus service would foster brotherhood and bring prosperity in the region. She said opening of other routes to Azad Kashmir might follow. Flagging off the first bus in Muzaffarabad, AJK PM Sardar Sikandar Hayat said it was the dawn of a new era in the history of Kashmir. He said the bus was a first step and hoped both Kashmirs would be linked by air routes and trade between the two sides would resume.
