CM Walks The Zero Line
13 March 2005
Kaman Post: Unmindful a stray landmine blowing up under him, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister today became the first civilian to walk the zero line on the Line of Control since Partition. No civilian has been allowed to visit the area since the road was closed to traffic in 1947-48. Sayeed visited this frontier post to inspect work for the Indo-Pak bus service scheduled to start on April 7 and was walking on a bridge being renovated for the purpose. He did not seem to notice the goodwill gesture of the Pakistani Rangers and engineers or the advice of troops and policemen deployed there not to foot the distance as there might be a stray landmine on the road.
