J&K Civic Polls From Tomorrow

Srinagar: Amidst boycott call by militants and separatists, the first phase of the civic polls in Jammu and Kashmir will be held tomorrow after a gap of 27 years. Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place for the polling in Baramulla and Kupwara districts for two municipal corporations and eight municipal committees tomorrow, officials here said. JKLF Chairman Mohammad Yaseen Malik and J and K Democratic Freedom party president Shabir Ahmad Shah addressed a massive anti-election rally in Pulwama chowk in South Kashmir where they called upon people to boycott the elections. Malik and shah said these elections were being held to 'hoodwink the international community and to weaken the ongoing freedom movement in the state'. Hardline faction of Hurriyat Conference also organised anti-election meetings at Budgam, Shahededgunj in Srinagar, Pulwama and Keller in Pulwama, Sopore in Baramulla and Regipora in Kupwara.
