Jammu: As many as 147 militants have been killed and 21 nabbed by the police and Army from Udhampur-Doda range of Jammu and Kashmir this year while 55 militants surrendered. Announcing this, DIG Satvir Gupta told PTI that 156 operations were launched in the entire Udhampur-Doda police range in Jammu and Kashmir in 2004. 'It was due to the sensitisation of the entire range and hawk's eye on the activities of the anti-national elements that 55 militants laid down their arms before the security forces', the DIG said adding about 161 absconders were also arrested by the police with the assistance of Army. Giving comparative details of militancy related activities in the region, Gupta said that 139 civilians were killed in 2004 as against 150 in the 2003. He said this year the range witnessed less number of deaths of security forces personnel while tackling militancy as compared to last year.
