Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Tuesday said his coalition government will release 55 detenues on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr. 'We will pass the orders for release of 55 detenues today and they will be released before Eid so that they can be with their families,' Sayeed told reporters here at a function organised to mark the completion of his two years in office. Asked if Sayeed had mortgaged his powers by forming the Joint Screening Committee with the Centre, he said, 'Our authority has not been eroded by any means. I have released many persons on my own (without referring them to Joint Screening Committee). But the Centre has its own inputs on the detenues from agencies like intelligence bureau. That is why the JSC was set up.
