New Delhi: The Army has been crying hoarse that the jehadi infrastructure across the border is still very much alive and kicking despite all the tall promises made by General Musharraf. And now, defence minister Pranab Mukherjee has stamped his approval on this assessment. 'Recent reports indicate that some terrorist training camps and launching pads (for sending militants across the LoC) in Pakistan and PoK have been re-activated,' Mukherjee told Parliament on Thursday. 'India has been consistently asking Pakistan to put an end to cross-border infiltration and terrorism into India and to dismantle the infrastructure of support to terrorism in Pakistan,' he added. The Army, in turn, says there are still 85 to 100 terrorist training and support camps operating in PoK, with around 3,500 to 4,000 well-trained jehadis . 'With the snow having melted in the mountain passes, infiltration has jumped up in the last two months as compared to the months before that. Almost 35 infiltration bids have been detected so far this year, with around 60 militants being killed in these encounters,' said an officer.
