50 arrested for torching Gilgit police station

Gilgit: The police arrested 50 people on Sunday on charges of setting the Sharoot Police Station on fire. The arrested people belong to Sharoot and Shakiyoot villages. The police station was torched on June 3 amid protests over a change in the school syllabus. The administration relaxed the curfew in Gilgit for 14 hours - from 500am to 700pm. Gilgit has been under curfew since June 3. Personnel of law enforcement agencies and troops were on duty at various points in the city on Sunday.
