As India Shines, J&K Bleeds: Omar Abdullah5 April 2004 News Network International
Jammu: National Conference president Omar Abdullah has admitted that the party debacle in 2002 assembly elections was the result of the mistakes committed by the party in the past. Addressing road shows, organised by the party in support of SS Slathia, party candidate from Jammu-Poonch parliamentary constituency, Omar said while BJP is raising the slogan of 'India shining' the state of Jammu and Kashmir is bleeding, reports Greater Kashmir. He further alleged that while BJP's 'feel good' factor has not touched J&K the state government's 'healing touch' has only brought misery and pain for the people of the State. Omar said while Mufti-led coalition government made tall promises in the last Assembly elections, they failed miserably to fulfill even one of them. He said unemployment has increased manifold, human rights violations have touched a new high, developmental works have come to a standstill and the confusion and chaos in the state administration has only added to the misery of the people of the state.
