GILGIT: The federal government has sought detailed information from the Northern Areas Administration on the opening of Astore-Burzul Road, which links the two cities through Astore town, official sources said on Saturday. 'The Astore-Burzul Road is the only link between Gilgit and Srinagar that passes through Burzul Pass along the Line of Control (LoC), sources said. 'This route was abandoned after the construction of the Karakoram Highway (KKH) in 1978 and increase in hostilities between Pakistan and India,' sources said.'Due to cessation of hostilities, the people of the area want to renew their links with their relatives across the LoC,' an official said. 'Pakistan and India are discussing the possibility of restoring the Gilgit-Srinagar Road to further strengthen ties between the people across the LoC,' said Northern Areas Legislative Council Speaker advocate Haji Sahib Khan.
