Srinagar: A top BSF officer who took the salute at the parade in Lal Chowk has said this could be the last function involving BSF in the main square of the city. He apologised to the people of Kashmir for the violations of the human rights that the forces might have committed while combating insurgency since 1989. BSF for the last 15 years is unfurling the tricolour in Lal Chowk and this is the main function of the force in the city. It was Dr M M Murli Manohar Joshi at the end of the Ekta yatra in 1990. The entire area remained under cordon for a few days prior to the ceremonial parade. This year two children who were part of the audience unfurled the flag while IGP (Kashmir Frontier) Vijay Raman took the salute. He later spoke briefly saying this could be BSF's last function in the main square as the force is being phased out and replaced by the CRPF. He said his troops might have committed some mistakes for which he sought apologies.
