Poonch: The Indian Army on Saturday formally inducted 18 Kashmiri youths to its recently raised Territorial Army battalion. They were formally administered the oath at a ceremony, called the 'Attestation Parade'. The territorial army will serve as a second line of defence and over 1500 posts are being filled. The latest initiave is one of the measures being taken by the government to wean Kashmiri youths away from militancy. 'Our brothers have come here and we are very happy that we have also been recruited in this force,' said Haji Ghulam Hassan, a recruitee. The Indian Army, which has been battling terrorism in Kashmir since 1989, hopes to address the rampant unemployment in the region through such recruitment drives.
