Srinagar: Thousands of youth in the border district of Kupwara turned up for territorial Army recruitment drive. This is for the first time that such a drive is launched in Kupwara, 100 km from here. The territorial Army will serve as a second line of defence and over 1500 posts are being filled. The candidates said the recruitment drive has come as a boon at a time when there is problem unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir. Abdul Rashid Bhat, an aspirant, said: 'We do not have any other work, so we have come here. We are here out of our own wish. We wanted to work as labourers but did not get work so we came here.' Abdul Majid, another aspirant also expressed the same feelings. Major General J K Mohanty, general officer commanding 28 Infantry Division at Kupwara said, this will be of real help to them as most of them are unemployed youth. This battalion is such where they can earn their bread and be part of the Army. They can become the second line of defence and fight terrorism which is growing in this region, the major general said.
