SRINAGAR: Hurriyat leader Nayeem Khan, who was arrested after he failed to explain the source of Rs 9 lakh in his possession, had received the money through ‘hawala’ channels and it was meant to fund militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, police said today. Inspector General of Police K Rajendra Kumar said that the money recovered from Khan was received through ‘hawala’ channels and meant to fund militant activities in the State. Khan, the chairman of National Front and a general council member of the separatist Hurriyat Conference, was detained for questioning at his residence here last night after he failed to explain the source of the money, officials said. He was formally placed under arrest today. Meanwhile, National Front alleged the Government was trying to implicate Nayeen Khan on false charges. 'The recovery of Rs 9 lakh from Khan was just to make the charges believable,' a Front spokesman said.(PTI)
