Srinagar: The minister for agriculture in the state government of Indian- administered Kashmir, Abdul Aziz Zargar, has offered to resign. His move follows allegations that his family harboured militants belonging to the outlawed Lashkar-e-Toiba group. The group was involved in an attack on the Akshardham Hindu temple in the western state of Gujarat last September, in which at least 30 people died. Reports carried by the local media recently alleged that one of the militants involved had told the police the attack had been planned at Mr Zargar's residence, in the village of Mazgam. Mr Zargar has denied these allegations, saying they are part of a politically- motivated campaign against him.
