Srinagar: Vice-Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Javid Ahmad Mir and four others were taken into preventive custody on Friday while trying to stage a 'pro-freedom' demonstration outside the party headquarters, official sources said. A group of JKLF activists led by Mir assembled in Maisuma locality shortly after Friday prayers and started raising slogans against the innocent killings in Jammu and Kashmir, the sources said. They tried to march towards Badshah Chowk in violation of prohibitory orders in force in the city, the sources said adding police immediately swung into action and detained Mir and three others. Meanwhile, a protest demonstration against the killing of a youth Javid Ahmed Magray continued for the second successive day even as authorities ordered a magisterial inquiry into circumstances leading to his death. The demonstrations were held soon after a Hurriyat delegation lead by JKLF chairman Mohammad Yaseen Malik visited the bereaved family of the youth, the sources said adding police used mild lathicharge to disperse the protestors and bring the situation under control. While the residents alleged that Magray, a 12th class student, was killed by Army without any provocation after being dragged out of his house last night, police said he as killed in crossfire between terrorists and security forces. However, the Army claimed he was a terrorist and died in a shootout.
