National Conference activist killed in J&K

Jammu: A National Conference village head was killed and four other party activists injured when a terrorist lobbed a grenade on them in Surankot area of Poonch district in Jammu division, police sources said on Thursday. The terrorist attacked the NC activists when they were returning to Dodo village after attending party president Omar Abdullah's rally in Surankot on Wednesday evening, the sources said. Despite being injured, the NC leader and head of Dodi village, Abdul Rashid, overpowered the terrorist. However, the terrorist fired at the sarpanch killing him on the spot, the sources said adding the terrorist managed to escape. The injured have been hospitalised. In a separate incident, security forces during search operations busted a terrorist hideout in Surankot area and recovered 50 rounds of pikka ammunition, one pistol round, one improvised explosive device (IED) and one primer.
