SRINAGAR: A possible tragedy was averted in a Sikhs' village located in Traal when residents raised an alarm after uniformed gunmen asked the residents to come out in the middle of night for a search operation. Armed men in military uniforms raided the village Chidibug at around 11.30 p.m. and started knocking doors and telling the residents to come out. The villagers raised an alarm and started beating the cans. Meanwhile, the police cops on duty also started firing which forced the incursionists to flee. Panic gripped the whole area when the Indian soldiers from a nearby camp retaliated the police fire mistaking it for an attack by freedom activists.
