Srinagar Tops List Of Militancy Deaths

Jammu: Srinagar topped the list of militancy deaths with 2,760 civilians and 712 security personnel being killed during the last 13 years of militancy, official sources said on Thursday. 'Among 14 districts of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar tops the table of killings of security personnel and civilians across the state,' the sources said here. As many as 2,760 civilians and 712 securitymen were killed and 2,054 civilians and 2,398 securitymen injured in Srinagar district in militancy related incidents since January 1990 till December 2002, the sources said. It was followed by Baramulla district of North Kashmir, where 2,750 civilians and 616 securitymen died and 1,712 civilians and 1,510 securitymen were injured during the same period, the sources said. As many as 2,218 civilians were killed and 1,331 wounded in South Kashmir's Anantnag district, which was followed by Kupwara district of South Kashmir with 1,563 civilians being killed and 677 being injured, the souces said.
