PoK chief, Jethmalani for peaceful resolution

ISLAMABAD: The President of the Pak Occupied Kashmir (PoK), Abdul Qayyum Khan, and the Rajya Sabha MP, Ram Jethmalani, have agreed that 'resolution of Kashmir should be through peaceful means and efforts should be made towards that end' Mr. Qayyum, who till recently headed the Pakistan National Kashmir Committee and Mr. Ram Jethmalani who heads a non-official Kashmir Committee met at the House of Lords in London on Friday to exchange views on Kashmir issue. It was the first formal contact between the two. According to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), Lord Nazir Ahmed and Lord Eric Averbury were present at the meeting. 'The focus of the talks was on Kashmir and its peaceful resolution,' Mr. Qayyum told APP after the meeting. He was quoted as saying that Mr. Jethmalani flew down to London from New Delhi specially to have a meeting with him. He told the news agency that during the meeting they assessed whether they were in a position to make some contribution towards a peaceful settlement of Kashmir issue. He said there might be a follow-up meeting on Friday. Mr. Qayyum said their meeting was 'an honest effort' by Mr. Jethmalani to solve the Kashmir issue. He is 'keen to play some role in solution' of the long pestering issue between Pakistan and India.
