NC MLA Speaks In Hurriyat's Favour
26 February 2003
Jammu: The National Conference, for the first time in its history, today came out openly in support of the Hurriyat. The party accused the ruling PDP-led alliance of harassing Hurriyat leaders and banning their religious and social organisations, 'which were doing tremendous work for the uplift of the people'. Speaking in the Assembly, Mr Ali Mohammed Sagar, former state home minister, today alleged that Mufti Mohammed Sayeed government was 'unnecessarily harassing' former Hurriyat chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and had got his 102-year-old social organisation Anjuman-e-Nusrat-ul-Islam, founded by his forefathers, blacklisted. The Anjuman is among the 12 groups blacklisted by the Centre across the country. Yesterday, the Mirwaiz denied having received any foreign aid.
