Bhat to be questioned on terror funding

New Delhi: The Delhi Police will interrogate All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) chairman Abdul Gani Bhat for his alleged role in funding terrorist organisations with slush funds received from Pakistan.The interrogation will be done anytime after Wednesday, which is Id.Anjum Zamrooda Habib (member of the Muslim-Khwateen-e-Markaz a constituent of the APHC), arrested by the Delhi Police under POTA and accused of receiving Rs 3.07 lakh from the Pakistani high commission, had named Bhat as the main beneficiary.Habib has also told the police that the money was handed over to her by the now-expelled Pakistani charges d'affaires Jaleel Abbas Jilani and that her meeting with him had been set up by Bhat and Shabir Ahmed Dar of the Kashmir Awareness Bureau.The police have frozen the HDFC bank account of the Kashmir Awareness Bureau.Bhat might also be booked under POTA. Senior Home Ministry officials said considering the situation in the Valley, it has been decided to proceed on the case only after Id.Meanwhile, Habib's statement will be recorded before a deputy commissioner of police and then re-confirmed before a judicial officer, making the statement admissible as evidence under POTA.Though Habib denied links with terrorists, the police said Habib had been directed to hand over the money to Bhat, who was to have distributed it among terrorist outfits.
