6 Terrorists, Mother-son Among 9 Killed In Poonch

Poonch: Nine persons including six terrorists, two civilians and an army jawan were killed while another soldier was seriously injured in three separate incidents across the district overnight. Security forces also smashed a hideout of the ultras during one of the operations. Three terrorists intruded into the house of Shamas Din at village Hari Budha in Surankote tehsil late last night and opened indiscriminate firing on the house inmates killing his wife and a son. The terrorists escaped after the killings, official sources said today. They identified the victims as Mohd Shakeel son of Shamas Din and Barkat Bi wife of Shamas Din. A police party visited site of the killings this morning. No reasons could be ascertained behind the killings. Other house inmates survived the firing. Local people have resented the killings of innocent mother-son. Security forces and police have started a search operation in the upper reaches of Hari Budha. Meanwhile, three terrorists of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and an army jawan were killed and another soldier was injured in a fierce exchange of gun-battle at Khanetar, about six kms from here under Poonch police stationís jurisdiction this afternoon. On a tip off that three terrorists had taken shelter in a hideout in Khanetar, a joint team of army and police launched a search operation. The terrorists opened firing on approaching columns of the security personnel, who retaliated. In over two hours operation, all three terrorists were killed. An army jawan also lost his life in the encounter while another jawan was seriously injured. The injured jawan has been hospitalised. Hideout of the terrorists was also smashed in the operation. Recoveries made from the scene of encounter and the hideout included two AK-47 rifles, five magazines, two wireless sets, one compass, five RPG rockets, a large quantity of ration and a stove. Sources said all three slain terrorists were foreign mercenaries of LeT outfit. However, their identity hasnít been established so far. Police parties in the operation were led by SSP Poonch Mukesh Singh and DySP Headquarters Manjeet Singh. Three more terrorists were killed in another encounter at village Kala Dafli in Bafliaz area of Surankote tehsil early this morning. The terrorists were killed in retaliatory firing by the troops, who were ambushed by a big group of ultras, the sources said. Bodies of the slain terrorists have been recovered but not identified so far. Two of them were suspected to be Pakistani terrorists of Al-Badr outfit. Two AK rifles, three magazines and a radio set were recovered from them. In this operation, the troops didnít suffer any casualties.
