Poonch: Local people last night overpowered two suspected terrorists from a house at village Mangnar, about three kms from here and later handed them over to police. A wooden made rifle, which was stated to be duplicate, was recovered from their possession. Official sources said the suspects intruded into the house of one Sham Lal at Mangnar at 2130 hours last night and displaying a rifle asked the family members to handover the entire cash and other valuables to them. As Sham Lal and other family members resisted, one of the suspects pointed out the rifle on them. The family, however, displayed courage and grappled with the duo. Hearing cries of the family members, the neighbours also rushed to the house and overpowered both the suspects. They were beaten-up by the people. Later, the people informed police and handed over the suspects to a police party headed by DySP (Headquarters) Poonch Manjeet Singh. Suspects have been identified as Maqsood Ahmed son of Kala Khan and Ashiq Hussain son of Said Gafoor, both residents of village Kalsa, Mangnar. Police confirmed that the rifle recovered from the youths was a duplicate rifle. 'The rifle was not workable', they pointed out. They said the suspects were being subjected to sustained interrogation to ascertain that whether they were the terrorists or were posing so to loot the people. Already a number of people had been looted by the ultras during the nights hours in Mangnar area at gun point. According to police, they were trying to ascertain that whether the captured youths were responsible for other looting incidents in the area, which had let loose a reign of terror among the villagers in Mangnar. Police said the suspects have disclosed that their three more associates were operating in the same area. Police have started searches to apprehend them.
