Jammu: Eight terrorists including a ‘deputy district commander’ of Lashkar-e- Toiba (LeT) outfit and a civilian were killed in separate encounters in Jammu region today while the ultras snatched three rifles from an equal number of Special Police Officers (SPOs). Official sources said the terrorists of LeT and Hizbul Mujahideen again clashed at village Appan under Marwah police station’s jurisdiction in Doda district last night. The clash took place during a reconciliatory meeting among ‘top brass’ of the two outfits. A LeT ‘deputy district commander’ Faizullah, a Pakistani, was killed in the clash. Later, other activists of both the groups deserted the meeting venue and fled away to a forest area, the sources said. It may be recalled that a similar clash had taken place between the two groups in June this year in which seven terrorists—five belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen and two to LeT—were killed. Army and police parties today reached village Appan, about 22 kms from Nawapachi and started a search operation for the terrorists involved in the clash. However, they remained untraced. Three terrorists were gunned down by army and police at village Shahpur Khour in Mahore tehsil of Udhampur district this afternoon, the sources said. They identified the slain terrorists Abdul Qadir, Mahmood and Nadir Hussain. They were activists of Hizbul Mujahideen Pir Panjal Regiment (HMPPR). Two AK-47 rifle, 190 rounds, one hand grenade, two pouches and seven AK magazines were recovered from the scene of encounter, they said, adding the searches were going on in the area as some more terrorists were reportedly hiding in the village. Army or police didn’t suffer any casualties in the operation. Two ultras were killed when army retaliated after being ambushed by a group of terrorists in Surankote in Poonch district this evening. Three other terrorists managed to escape. One AK-47 rifle, one AK-56 rifle, three magazines, one wireless set and two Chinese hand grenades were recovered from the encounter site. Two more unidentified terrorists were eliminated by security forces in Kandi area in Rajouri tonight. One of them was believed to be a foreign mercenary. One AK rifle, one pistol and some ammunition were recovered from the possession of the slain terrorists. A civilian Akhter Hussain son of Abdul Ahmed was gunned down by the terrorists in his house at village Joura in Gandoh area of Doda last mid-night. Reasons behind the killing couldn’t be ascertained. A police party from Gandoh rushed to the spot for investigations. Meanwhile, a group of terrorists intercepted three SPOs in a house and snatched three weapons—two Insas rifles and one SLR—from them in Duloo village in Gandoh. The SPOs, who were robbed off their weapons, have been identified as Asif Aziz, Javed Hussain and Abdul Lateef. Sources said the SPOs had gone to the house of another SPO Salam Din at Duloo, where they were cornered by the terrorists. The ultras escaped towards a forest area after snatching weapons of the SPOs. Local police have registered a case. A terrorist Farooq Ahmed Bhatt son of Anwar Bhatt of LeT outfit was apprehended by army from village Appan in Nawapachi area of Doda today. One 7.62 mm pistol, one Chinese hand grenade and 30 AK rounds were recovered from him, the sources said. para-military jawan S Krishen was injured in an encounter with the ultras in Jodh forests in Kalakote tehsil of Rajouri last night.
