SRINAGAR: Army troops on Monday foiled an attempt by two Lashker-e-Taiba militants to storm the battalion headquarters of Rashtriya rifles at Sopore in north Kashmir killing both of them, official sources said. The two militants, believed to be members of a suicide squad, were killed in a two-hour-long gunbattle at the main gate of the headquarters of the 22 Rashtriya Rifles at Manzbug in the wee hours of Monday. Troops challenged the two militants when they tried to storm the headquarters leading to a gunbattle in which both of them were killed. Two AK assault rifles, six grenades and some ammunition were recovered from the scene, the sources said. In other incidents in Kashmir, militants abducted a person from his residence in Handwara area in Kupwara district and later beheaded him. Militants fired at security forces at Shopian in Pulwama district and set off an IED in Baramulla but there were no reports of any casualties.
