JKLF leader, associates taken into preventive custody

Srinagar: Acting JKLF chairman Javid Ahmad Mir and some of his associates were taken into preventive custody by police here late today as the outfit was planning disruptive activities tomorrow, a top police official said. Inspector General of Police K Rajendra Kumar said several persons including Mir were taken into preventive custody to stop them from carrying out any disruptive activities. Mir and and some separatists were planning to hold protests tomorrow, the day when Indian troops landed in Jammu and Kashmir in 1947 to repulse the attack of tribal raiders and soldiers from Pakistan. Besides Mir, the others detained include Shahidul Islam (Awami Action Committee), Mohammed Assan Untoo (Human Rights Front), Abdul Khaliq, Riyaz Ahmad (both Islamic Students League), Ghulam Nabi Najjar, Mohammad Ismail, Sirajuddin (all People''s League) and Mohammed Altaf (JKLF).
