Srinagar: The Democratic People''s Forum led by state CPM leader Mohammed Yusuf Tarigami on Wednesday gave a letter of support to a Congress-led coalition in Jammu and Kashmir, an Independent MLA of the forum said in Srinagar. Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Sofi, who won from Handwara assembly constituency, said that the letter was handed over to state Congress chief Ghulam Nabi Azad by Tarigami. However, he said that the forum had yet not decided whether to join the government, in case the Congress was able to form it, or support it from outside. The support of seven MLAs - Tarigami (Kulgam), Mohammed Khalil (Wachi), both from CPM, Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Sofi (Handwara), Raman Mattoo (Habba Kadal), Hakim Yaseen (Beerwah) Usman Majid (Bandipore) and Babu Singh (Kathua) - would boost the prospects of a Congress-led coalition in the state. Azad has reportedly secured the support of Malvi Abdul Rashid (Banihal), Babu Puran Singh (Darhal), Eijaj Ahmed Khan (Gool), Abdul Majid (Doda), Haji Nissar (Kargil) and Ashwani Kumar (Bishnah). The independent MLA from Billawar assembly, Manoharlal Sharma, is also reported to have extended support to Azad besides the four MLAs of Panthers Party. Even with the support of the above-mentioned MLAs, the Congress would fall short of the magic figure of 44 in the 87- member state assembly.
