NCP candidate seriously injured, 4 killed as militants blow up campaign vehicle in J-K

Srinagar: Nationalist Congress Party candidate Khaleeda Mushtaq was seriously injured when militants blew up her car killing four persons, including her father, near Kulgam in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday afternoon, police said. Militants exploded an imrovised explosive device (IED) around 1440 hours IST at Phalu-Devsar which blew up the car of Mushtaq, an NCP candidate from Devsar, who was on her way to address an election rally, police said. Her father Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, constable Noor Mohammed and two civilians Jehangir Ahmed Beig and Mohammed Yaqoob Beig, who were in the car with her, died in the explosion. Khaleeda Mushtaq and an unidentified civilian were seriously injured in the attack, police said. They were rushed to a hospital where her condition was stated to be critical, they said. A little known militant outfit al-Arifeen has claimed responsibility for the attack, police said. In Anantnag district, militants hurled a grenade at a Congress rally at Srigopfara injuring four persons, police said.
