Terrorist involved in Rajiv Nagar carnage shot dead

RAJIV NAGAR (JAMMU): The Jammu and Kashmir police today gunned down one of the terrorists responsible for the massacre of 29 slum dwellers here on July 13. A sub-inspector was killed and two constables were injured in the encounter. Talking to presspersons after the shooting incident in Rekka hills, the Inspector-General of Police, Jammu Range, P.L. Gupta said the combing operations in the Raika Batindi forests (into which the terrorists had escaped after committing the massacre) which had started on Friday met with success this morning when police were able to track down one terrorist. On spotting the police, the terrorists opened fire in which three personnel were injured and a sub- inspector, Ranbir Thakur, succumbed to injuries. Soon the terrorist was overpowered. During brief interrogation before his death, he reportedly confessed to have been involved in the Rajiv Nagar massacre. According to police, he also revealed his identity. He belonged to the Lashkar-e-Taiba and hailed from Lahore, Pakistan.
